Every once in a while we stumble upon a hidden gem and that was the case on my trip to Colorado. I was on a search for an antique shop, so I opened up my GPS and found something called antique row! While walking down this street named Broadway I came across a store called Fifty-Two 80’s. I was immediately drawn into this store as I was welcomed by chairs outside that looked like they were from the show Pee-Wee Herman. As soon as I walked into the store I was taken back to my childhood. With hundreds of toys spanning from 1975-1995 you are sure to find something in the shop that makes you say “I had that when I was little!”
Store owners Dede Thompson and Tony Vecchio started Fifty Two 80’s four and a half years ago and here is what Dede had to say about their beginning “Believe it or not, we were not collectors when we decided to open the shop! Tony just had the crazy idea to open an 80’s store and here we are! There was nothing like this when we came up with the idea. You could find 80’s nostalgia here and there but there was no place that displayed it all in one spot! We were truly original to have a store that concentrated on one decade!”
I walked the store three times and every time I walked around I saw something different. I came across Rainbow Brite, He-Man, Star Wars, etc. I kept saying out loud “Oh my goodness I had this” and I couldn’t wipe the smile from my face.
“We thought it would be cool to have a place where, not only people could revisit their childhood memories, but they can buy them and take them home with them! It is also a place where people who are 30 and up, can show their kids the things we had to contend with growing up. We hear some pretty cool stories from people!”
I asked Dede where they acquired all of the items in the store and she kindly shared that they get items from all over “We are always looking to buy unique 80’s nostalgia. We only sell locally so we always try and buy local as well! We are looking for items that are in good condition that span from 1975 to 1995. All you have to do is contact us by phone or social media and set up a time to bring your awesome stuff in! We are also willing to go to you if needed! All of our products are unique and we spend a lot of time out networking and picking to find it! Fifty-Two ’80s is definitely a labor of love and I think that shows from the moment you walk in!”
I couldn’t agree more! If you are ever in the Denver area, Fifty Two ’80s is a place that you must visit. You may find yourselves in this store for hours just reminiscing buying back your wonderful childhood memories.
